A tumble of cool blue sheets and pillows rises like a small mountain against a deep, near-black background, every crease and fold rendered with meticulous attention. The light skims across the fabric, carving out ridges and valleys so that the linens feel at once intimate and architectural—part still life, part landscape.

Painted in a contemporary realist style with a near-photographic focus on texture and value, Rise uses a restrained palette and dramatic contrast to slow the viewer down and elevate an everyday subject into something contemplative and powerful. This piece pays homage to one of my favorite contemporary artists, Omalia, echoing her influence in the way ordinary materials become vessels for emotion, memory, and quiet transformation.
